The short list: events worth leaving AC for this week
This week in food events I have been talking about
It’s about one bajillion degrees outside right now and similarly the polls are heating UP!
This weather has me thinking most of us will be staying inside for the majority of the week. So I'm keeping this dispatch shorter than usual - just the essentials worth braving the heat for.
Stay cool and let’s dive in.
POP UP WATCH — Events worth your time (ticketed)
CROATIAN WINE @ RUFFIAN | June 25 (via Resy) Cool off as Patrick Cournot guides you through four Croatian wines. $50 for the kind of education that pays dividends at future dinner parties. I've been curious about Croatian varietals - this feels like the perfect entry point.
ACE'S PIZZA x ENSENADA | June 27 (via Resy) I went to a great pop-up by Ensenada this past spring and was glad to see they’re collaborating with Ace’s Pizza. This time around, the menu is seafood-forward and $34.95 gets you in for specialty collab food plus a commemorative tee. That’s what I call a haul. Go!
L&L DAIRY x PLACE DES FÊTES | June 30 (via Resy) Former Oxalis sous Dan Linsay modernizes Jewish dairy restaurant classics for one night only. His pop-up concept pays homage to staples of Jewish culture in NYC. I’m curious what he has up his sleeve!
EXPENSE ACCOUNT — One especially swanky event
4TH OF JULY PARTY @ MANHATTA | July 4 (tickets here) If you’re looking for something more elevated than backyard grills and hot dogs this year, head downtown to Manhatta, then sixty floors up for their Fourth of July party. Somehow, they will have full-court pickleball (not sure how this works but if anyone goes report back), plus a live band, pulled pork, boozy snow cones, cornhole, and more. It’s a bold combination of Americana plus fine dining atmosphere. Go!
NO RESERVATIONS — Pop ups, tastings, & block parties you can walk straight into
BELL & RUTH'S @ LISE & VITO | June 28 (info here) Lise & Vito invite a legendary sandwich crew to bring mortadella sammies and tuna melts to one of Greenpoint’s finest. Grab a sandwich and a drink, starting at 2pm. A perfect Saturday afternoon if you ask me.
LEV @ HANCOCK HOUSE | June 29 (info here) Brooklyn's finest pop-up at 247 Hancock Street, 2-7pm. There will be amazing food and amazing people watching, trust me (I’ve been there). If you know you know.
That’s all from me folks! Happy hunting :)
