Paris Comes to Greenwich Village and Daniel Boulud's $60 Gift to Humanity
This week in food events I have been talking about
Something special is in the air this week: every single event is either stupidly cheap or absolutely worth the splurge. For example, Daniel Boulud's giving away $60 three-course dinners, there's a $12 shochu party at Rule of Thirds, and tickets have dropped for a preview of Paris' most anticipated new restaurant...happening at Parcelle Greenwich Village.
It’s truly a sight to behold.
Point is: this week's not playing around. Grab a friend and book accordingly :)
POP UP WATCH — Events worth your time (ticketed)
SUMMER PRODUCE POP-UP @ JUNE WINE BAR | July 9 (via Resy). The menu preview alone has me sold: tomato and strawberry crudo, fried green tomato with wild rocket, and a tomato and strawberry tarte tatin that sounds like pure genius. *insert chef’s kiss here* Go!
FRENCH RESTAURANT WEEK @ LE GRATIN | July 10 (via Resy). Daniel Boulud's three-course prix fixe is back, and at $60 per person it's what I would call, in my humble opinion, a “steal.” Whether you’re a fan of Boulud or haven’t been to one of his restaurants yet, this is an incredible deal and you should not skip it. Multiple seatings available from 5pm onwards, so grab your most sophisticated dining companion and lean into the experience.
SUMMER SEAFOOD EXTRAVAGANZA @ FOXFACE NATURAL | July 11 (via Resy). If you’ve never been to Foxface, here’s your chance. They’re throwing multiple seafood extravaganzas during July, and this $120 seafood feast focused on the best of the Northeast sounds very, very good. House-cured fish, an array of dishes served on ice, and selections that change based on what the seas are offering. Think red shrimp cocktail, surf clam aguachile, and if you're lucky, Portuguese percebes. You live in a coastal city for a reason - enjoy it!
TEA TIME @ FULGURANCES, LAUNDROMAT | July 13 (via Resy). Former pastry chef of Saga/Crown Shy/Overstory is reimagining afternoon tea at the Laundromat, and $78 gets you a playful, elegant experience that's going to have you saying “pip pip cheerio.” Think refined pastries with savory influences and a few surprises that'll make you rethink what tea time can be. Greenpoint at 2pm - a great way to spend your Sunday.
EXPENSE ACCOUNT — One especially swanky event
SUNDAY SOMMELIER SUPPER @ COTE | July 13 (via Resy). Spanish wine is the theme, and $289.97 gets you Cote’s legendary Butcher's Feast paired with five unique wines exploring Spain's iconic regions. Communal seating means you're about to make some serious wine friends while experiencing what happens when Korean steakhouse mastery meets Spanish terroir. Grab a colleague or go solo - but just go!
NO RESERVATIONS — Pop ups, tastings, & block parties you can walk straight into
HERA X BAR AMERICANO TAKEOVER | July 10 (info here). Chef Jay Rodriguez is taking over the kitchen at Bar Americano for a one-night-only "Summer Soirée," and for a lover of all things aquatic the menu sounds divine: oysters with plum mignonette, scallops a la plancha, baked clams, panzanella, and avocado squash tempura. 5pm start in Greenpoint. Go!
BROOKLYN KURA SHOCHU LAUNCH PARTY @ RULE OF THIRDS | July 13 (info here). Probably the cheapest way you’ll be able to drink this weekend. $12 gets you access to the tasting plus two food or cocktail tokens at Greenpoint's finest, Rule of Thirds. Head there from 2pm. Kanpai!
SEAFOOD SOIREE @ TIME AGAIN BAR | July 13 (info here). This seems to be the week of soirées. ‘Tis the season! Gotcha Focaccia and Chef Lala of Pisces Supper Club are combining forces to make crispy fried fish sandwiches on an assortment of delectable focaccias (focacci?) and refreshing peach & burrata panzanella. Starts from 3pm till they sell out. Check out the pictures/full menu in the link - it looks/sounds incredible.
THIS WEEK'S PRIME SCORE — Deal I found on Blackbird* and am taking advantage of this week
CYPSÈLE PREVIEW @ BLACKBIRD CLUB | July 23-25 (via OpenTable) Blackbird is throwing on the special sauce this summer. They’ve been throwing pizza parties, they’ll be doing a seafood boil in August if you’re in the know (btw, you should get in the know) and in July they’re bringing Marcin Król to NYC for a special event. Before he opens Paris' most anticipated new restaurant this fall, he's doing four exclusive nights at Blackbird Club at Parcelle Greenwich Village.
$125 gets you a six-course tasting menu, plus optional wine pairing co-curated by Cypsèle's Head Sommelier. If you’ve never been to a restaurant preview before, here’s your shot. Tickets are now live.
* I am not affiliated with Blackbird but if they want to sponsor me hmuuu. Take advantage of their referral program here (you’ll get $20 upon download and $20 on your first check-in).
That’s all from me folks! Happy hunting :)
