French legends collide, a hike and picnic, and Eddie Huang throws a dinner party
This week in food events I have been talking about
Word hit the streets this week that Eddie Huang is back and he’s gonna be at the Flower Shop for a quick residency. Gazebo, his pop-up, sold out quicker than I could write this sentence, so if you want to try your luck your best bet is to set a notify. Alas!
Meanwhile, Daniel Boulud is teaming up with Parisian legend Jean-François Piège for a French culinary masterclass happening tonight at Le Gratin. If you’re down for a late night dîner (dinner), this will be a very fun event.
Also surfacing this week: my go-to meat supplier Dickson's is throwing an 8-course whole hog feast that utilizes every single part of the pig, and summer camp is in session with a 5.8-mile hike followed by a 4-course dinner served up by my buddy in Nyack Beach.
Get your phone ready to dial up your crew. Have a great week!
POP UP WATCH — Events worth your time (ticketed)
DANIEL BOULUD X JEAN-FRANÇOIS PIÈGE @ LE GRATIN | June 10 (via Resy). Two French masters celebrating 90 years of La Poule au Pot with a four-course collaboration. $155 gets you front row seats to culinary history. When legends unite, you show up. Grab the last seating at 10pm tonight and feel extra European dining late into the night!
WHOLE HOG FEAST @ DICKSON'S FARMSTAND | June 12 (via Resy). Ah yes, my favorite purveyor of everything meat-related is putting on a show-stopper. Eight courses utilizing every single part of the pig, paired with seven seasonal beers from Threes Brewing. Check the link for the menu - it’s incredible. This is definitely gonna be a fun time. $80 all-in, 6:45pm start.
HIKE + DINNER WITH CHEF ABDALRAHMAN | June 14 (tickets here). For those of us who want to frolic in nature and end the day with a delicious meal. You’ll do a 5.8-mile trek through Nyack Beach State Park with a fun crew and finish the day with a proper 4-course dinner prepared by my buddy Abd. $150 gets you Hudson River views, a return to summer camp in spirit, and the satisfaction of earning your meal the hard way. Bring your friends and get a reprieve from the city!
EXPENSE ACCOUNT — One especially swanky event
AN EVENING WITH ISLAND CREEK OYSTERS @ PER SE (via Tock). Thomas Keller and Skip Bennett telling the stories behind the oysters that built "Oysters and Pearls" legend. Casa Dragones cocktails, raw bar reception, six-course tasting with exceptional wines. This one is extra swanky, so grab your corporate card, dial up a client or your team, and hop to it.
NO RESERVATIONS — Pop ups, tastings, & block parties you can walk straight into
TRICK DOG TAKEOVER @ BAR MADONNA | June 11 (via Resy) San Francisco's Trick Dog crew lands behind the bar serving signature cocktails alongside Bar Madonna's team. That’s what I call cross-coast collaboration worth the Brooklyn trek. Head there from 5-8pm!
ELEVEN MADISON PARK PASTRY POP-UP | June 14 (info here) Eleven Madison Park’s last Bake It Nice pop-up of the season is happening this Saturday. Get there before the lines become egregious at 11am for banging pastries (flavors on deck: apricot with candied almond and orange Blossom & chocolate with dulce de leche and raspberry) until they’re sold out.
KINJO WEEKEND LUNCH POP-UP | June 15 (via Resy) They had me at oyakodon. This weekend, Kinjo is serving up a plethora of Japanese lunch sets. On offer are bluefin tuna donburi, oyakodon, beef curry, plus yuzu mimosas and an awesome wine list. 11am-2pm, walk-ins welcome. This is the kind of weekend lunch I’m looking for. Go!
