Chef Missy's doing pasta, the French are doing burgers, and I'm doing damage to my wallet
This week in food events I have been talking about
May is really showing off with a roster of events so tempting I've already canceled all other plans.
This week, I've unearthed some absolute bangers happening around the city. I’m talking Chef Missy Robbins of Misipasta and Lilia doing what she does best (a 6-course pasta tasting menu), a champagne and oyster pairing that actually justifies going to Hudson Yards, and a Parisian burger invasion at 7th Street Burger that'll have you questioning your loyalty to American patties.
For those whose bank accounts are sending distress signals, I've got you too—there's an event at Ficuzza in the village where buying any drink gets you complimentary Sicilian bites. Which to me sounds like the perfect mid-week salvation.
Hope you enjoy, go out there to eat, and have a great week!
POP UP WATCH — Events worth your time (ticketed)
PASTA TASTING @ MISIPASTA | May 20 (via Resy). The pasta queen herself, Missy Robbins, of Misipasta and Lilia royalty, is blessing Williamsburg with a six-course tasting that'll ruin you for all other carbs. Grab a carb-loving friend, go tonight, and report back! Bookings open from 5pm.
CHAMPAGNE & OYSTERS TASTING @ MILOS WINE BAR | May 23 (via Resy). Finally, a legitimate reason to go to Hudson Yards! Milos Wine Bar's champagne and oyster pairing has outlasted most NYC relationships, and for good reason. Three champagnes, a spread of oysters, and the sweet validation of doing something sophisticated on a Friday—all for $60. Grab a spot from 5pm and instantly feel like you’ve ascended tax brackets.
SUNDAY SAUCE: LA PRIMAVERA @ BAR ENZO | May 25 (via Resy). They had me at “Italian-American speakeasy.” This Sunday, head to Bar Enzo in LIC for a $100 four-course Sicilian feast that's giving major family dinner energy. Cocktails not included but absolutely necessary.
NO RESERVATIONS — Pop ups and block parties you can walk straight into
WEDNESDAY APERITIVO @ FICUZZA | May 21 Ficuzza is channeling pure aperitivo energy this Wednesday from 5-7pm. Order any drink and they'll hook you up with complimentary Sicilian bites at the bar that deliver: traditional focaccia, eggplant caponata, and olives that would make your Sicilian nonna nod approvingly. The perfect event for when you're hungry but not dinner-hungry! Free to attend but RSVP if you want guaranteed entry. If you go send me a message, I know the chef there :)
WHITE BURGUNDY TASTING @ SOME GOOD WINE | May 21 (via Some Good Wine) Some Good Wine is hosting the wine equivalent of Coachella, pouring 25 different White Burgundies that would normally require a trust fund to experience. For a cool $30, you can taste wines priced between "maybe if I skip lunch this week" and "absolutely not in this economy." And because every decent Burgundy deserves proper cheese accompaniment, they've tapped Murray's Cheese to deliver the goods. Wednesday, 6-8pm. Allons-y!
SMASHBURGERS TAKEOVER @ 7TH STREET BURGER SOHO | May 22-24 (more info here) Parisian burger cult Junk is crossing the Atlantic to hold court at 7th Street Burger in SoHo, bringing their minimalist-but-maximal approach to the smashburger game. If you're not excited about this, we clearly have different priorities in life. Unfortunately this would be my third burger of the week so I won’t be in attendance! But what’s stopping you? 250 Mulberry St.
I LOVE SUMMERS IN NEW YORK BLOCK PARTY @ ROBERTA'S | May 25 Block party season is officially here! The second installment of Roberta's "I LOVE SUMMERS IN NEW YORK" series takes over their Bushwick courtyard (rain or shine—they've got a tent) with Jay Rodriguez of HERA curating a menu with local produce and open-fire grilling. Perfect for both the lunch crew AND the dinner set looking for sunset eats. Plus there will be vinyl spinning, cause why not? A walk-in only event, starting at 1pm until sell-out—go early!
THIS WEEK'S PRIME SCORES — Deals I found on Blackbird* and am taking advantage of this week
RAF’S | Soho | $5 breakfast sandwich | May 21
My truffle pig skills have unearthed quite a good one here. If you haven’t been to Raf’s, it’s an absolutely gorgeous restaurant off Houston St. A $5 breakfast sandwich (you need to use Blackbird Pay to get this deal) is a huge steal, and an impeccable way to start off the day. Go from 9-11am and thank me later!
* I am not affiliated with Blackbird but if they want to sponsor me hmuuu
That’s all from me folks! Happy hunting :)
Forward this to your crew and get some plans on the calendar. And if you liked this newsletter, send me a message!
